An Introduction to Live Sound Engineering


Free for Boudica Ticket holders – available on first come first served basis.

A beginner-level workshop focusing on the basics of live sound engineering. Led by live sound engineers Naomi Jackson and Phoebe Robinson (they/them), this workshop will provide participants with the knowledge to be able to run/ organise a small gig themselves.

It will also give those who are artists the technical language to be able to take control of their sound when talking to engineers during their performances. We will cover the basics of signal routing, microphone placement, mixing desk skills, power, and stage safety. Each participant will get hands on with stage set-up, sound checking, and mixing.

Algorave Live Coding Workshop

Live coding workshop with Joanne Armitage and Coral Manton.

Please bring your own laptop and headphones.

Live coding is the practice of making live, often improvised, music and visuals with code. Live coding is a sharing and collaborative practice where code is projected for the audience to see. Algoraves are dance music events where live coders perform, and over the last few years have become a global club culture phenomenon.

This workshop will focus on live-coding music and visuals using open-source software.
The workshop will be inclusive, you will learn how to make music and visuals with open source live-coding software – no experience of coding is required.

Tor de Force DJ workshop

7.00pm Start – Saturday 19th
Feel free to bring your own USB, or use the provided playlists to learn about timing and placing tracks.

Party DJ Workshops:
Learn the fast way to entertain a room, with your choice of music. This is a very beginner workshop, to build confidence in using CDJS and a mixer- in a fun, informative manner.

About Tor da Force:
Full time promoter, DJ and professional party starter, who has played the biggest festival stages across the UK and Europe – including Bestival, Glastonbury and Boomtown. Tor has carved out a niche in playing a mixture of tour DJ slots, syndicated indie nights and curating emerging band line ups at venues and festivals. After ten years, she has also created her own residencies and brands from scratch, founded female DJ collective Frau DJs and even played an Ibiza Rocks pool party. Founding Independent Promotions company We Broke Free, she constantly strives to bring the best new music to the South Coast. In house promoter for the legendary 60 Million Postcards (recently named best bar in Bournemouth by GQ), she also works with the local student union and curates stages at festivals.–
